Resistance to quambalaria shoot blight and myrtle rust in Corymbia calophylla seedlings

چکیده

Corymbia calophylla (marri), an endemic keystone tree species in southwest Western Australia, is increasingly impacted by the introduced basidiomycete smut Quambalaria pitereka. The rust Austropuccinia psidii (myrtle rust), invasive pathogen recently to Eastern expected spread of Australia eventually. has similar epidemiology Q. pitereka, and there concern that C. may be susceptible. Preliminary pathogenicity tests showed significant differences aggressiveness between twelve pitereka isolates, was evidence interactions isolates provenances. Seedlings from 59 open-pollinated families 11 provenances covering natural range marri were screened for resistance A. under controlled glasshouse conditions. Resistance seedlings within differed significantly. There no correlation psidii. wetter regions more resistant both pathogens, but coefficients insignificant. four three (Serpentine, Chidlow, Kingston) 100% Narrow-sense heritability estimates 0.07 quambalaria shoot blight 0.34 myrtle resistance. results indicate potential use selected families/individuals improvement programs adaptive management strategies.

The Myrtle rust pathogen, Puccinia psidii, discovered in Africa

Puccinia psidii, the cause of a disease today commonly referred to as Myrtle rust, is considered a high priority quarantine threat globally. It has a wide host range in the Myrtaceae and it is feared that it may result in significant damage to native ecosystems where these plants occur. The fungus is also of considerable concern to plantation forestry industries that propagate Australian Eucaly...

The durable wheat disease resistance gene Lr34 confers common rust and northern corn leaf blight resistance in maize

Maize (corn) is one of the most widely grown cereal crops globally. Fungal diseases of maize cause significant economic damage by reducing maize yields and by increasing input costs for disease management. The most sustainable control of maize diseases is through the release and planting of maize cultivars with durable disease resistance. The wheat gene Lr34 provides durable and partial field r...

Quantitative Trait Loci in Sweet Corn Associated with Partial Resistance to Stewart's Wilt, Northern Corn Leaf Blight, and Common Rust.

ABSTRACT Partial resistance to Stewart's wilt (Erwina stewartii, syn. Pantoea stewartii), northern corn leaf blight (NCLB) (Exserohilum turcicum), and common rust (Puccinia sorghi) was observed in an F(2:3) population developed from a cross between the inbred sweet corn lines IL731a and W6786. The objective of this study was to identify quantitative trait loci (QTL) associated with partial resi...

Diversity of Resistance Gene Analogues in Rust Resistance and Susceptible Bread Wheat Varieties

Fungal diseases, especially leaf and stripe rusts are wheat yield reducing factors in Iran and the world. In this study, genetic diversity of 20 wheat varieties with different response to leaf and stripe rusts were studied using primers designed based on the conserved regions of plant disease resistance genes. The banding patterns of polymorphic markers were scored as dominant and number of amp...
